I literally adore these library editions! Not only is the story and the book itself beautiful, but I love the insights into the process of the artwork and the thoughts of the artist。 Great to see Kuvira redeem herself。 My favourite Korra villain, hands down。

Leslie Hester

First off 🗣Kuvira redemption arc ❤️ plus my boy Wu getting adventure time with team avatar is always a plus。 But the best thing was the artist who illustrated korra made her actually look like korra from the series!

Jack Phoenix

Some of the plot elements feel a bit thin, even for high concept fantasy, but the continued character growth easily outweighs the flaws。

Debbie

Awesome! Just like an episode of the show。

Loved the action and romance in this。 Can’t wait to see what happens next with Korra and Asami。

Kayleigh

As usual, well written, drawn and told。 Another brilliant addition。

I’m crying, this was better than I thought was possible!!!! It was surprisingly dramatic and angsty, while keeping the humour and lightheartedness of the show。 Plus, more focus on Kuvira’s childhood and her inability to take responsibility for bad things she’s done made me really really like her character! I didn’t care about her that much in the show but now I want an entire novel about her life, please!I was screaming the whole time I was reading this, it’s so exciting and so perfect。 I just l I’m crying, this was better than I thought was possible!!!! Like Turf Wars, it really just felt like a natural extension of the show。 The characters felt the same and the fight scenes were just as wonderful, and I’m 100% living for the gay shit in here。

Sarah

I loved the art and loved seeing these characters again。

Jenna Alcock

Loved the return of toph。 And the story was good to see the repercussions on characters。

i really liked this comic。 i love legend of korra so reading this and the comics before this one was so fun。 i live all the characters and it was fun to see kuvira answer for what she did in the last season of the show。 it was also nice to see more of korra and asami as a couple and seeing the crew all together。

I personally enjoyed the first collection more, mostly because I missed Tenzin, Jinora, and the other airbenders! But this was still an awesome adventure and I enjoyed the closure they brought to Kuvira。 I always thought she was such a nuanced villain, so it was great to see a redemption arc for her。 And like the first series, I loved seeing Korra and Asami's relationship progress -- representation is everything! The only convincing redemption arc we've ever seen in the "Avatar world" is Zuko。 Although I can actually felt Kuvira's suffering, I just can't believe how all of the supporting characters seem to accept her in the end。 Also, other supporting characters don't even voice their opinion, like what was that about? Are we supposed to assume all the Beifong just forgive and accept Kuvira in the end? It was not realistic, in my opinion。 Anyway, this story was a decent read。 The only convincing redemption arc we've ever seen in the "Avatar world" is Zuko。 Although I can actually felt Kuvira's suffering, I just can't believe how all of the supporting characters seem to accept her in the end。 Also, other supporting characters don't even voice their opinion, like what was that about? I bought this immediately after finishing "Turf Wars" and I genuinely tried to draw it out and make the story last, but it was so hard。 I wanted to devour the story and I did, with zero regrets。 If a 3rd comic series comes out, you know I will throw my money, grab the comic, and run away。 I bought this immediately after finishing "Turf Wars" and I genuinely tried to draw it out and make the story last, but it was so hard。 I wanted to devour the story and I did, with zero regrets。 If a 3rd comic series comes out, you know I will throw my money, grab the comic, and run away。 。。。more

I thought this was great - seeing the Earth Empire again, new technology, flashbacks to the ATLA storyline, seeing some familiar faces again。 I had a good time。

A really interesting look at the extended ATLA universe。 It's a lovely read, and I really liked seeing Korra and Asami be a cute couple together。 A really interesting look at the extended ATLA universe。 It's a lovely read, and I really liked seeing Korra and Asami be a cute couple together。 。。。more

3。5 *OK, I'm probably being a bit harsh, but the Beifong family dynamic is my all-time favourite thing to analyse in LoK and I think this was a missed opportunity to do some proper in-depth discussion that they didn't have time for in the show。 Also I'm not a big fan of Kuvira - she was a great villain but I'm not overly invested in someone who tried to anime laser blast an entire city getting a quick redemption arc。 Some thoughts:- Toph was criminally under-used in this。 They got her out of the 3。5 *OK, I'm probably being a bit harsh, but the Beifong family dynamic is my all-time favourite thing to analyse in LoK and I think this was a missed opportunity to do some proper in-depth discussion that they didn't have time for in the show。 Also I'm not a big fan of Kuvira - she was a great villain but I'm not overly invested in someone who tried to anime laser blast an entire city getting a quick redemption arc。 Some thoughts:- Toph was criminally under-used in this。 They got her out of the swamp to basically do nothing except provide comic relief。 Toph can sense everything that's going on in the world through those spirit vines and she didn't even move her ass out of the swamp when her daughter lost her bending, when Korra had Raava's spirit ripped out of her, and when the Red Lotus was trying to wipe out the airbenders。。。 but she'll leave the swamp again because King Wu had a spirit vision? Mmkay。 Sure。 Then when she does leave。。。。 SHE DOES NOTHING??? what the heck guys。- It makes me so mad that Suyin does so little to discipline Kuvira when she finds her bullying Opal。 Suyin openly acknowledges that her own mother didn't establish sufficient boundaries and we know as a result of her thoughtless, unmanaged behaviour Suyin literally scarred her own sister and their family unit broke down。 Suyin knows what it's like to be that child, to experience that kind of upbringing, so why does she replicate Toph's mistakes? - This was also such a missed opportunity for us to see Su and Toph have a discussion about parenting and their own mother-daughter relationship。 We get to see Lin and Toph have this discussion in Book 4, so it would have been interesting to see Suyin's conversation, especially as, unlike Lin, Suyin is herself a parent。 A flashback scene of Suyin asking Toph for advice about Kuvira and Opal or even lashing out at her in frustration would have been so so interesting。- I like that Opal's reactions to Suyin and Kuvira's relationship mirror that of Lin's to Toph and Su, a nice detail。- Notice how I'm bringing Lin into this even though all we see of her in this comic is the back of her head in one panel。 I'm not bitter at all。 Nope。 Not even a little bit。- Also everyone was ridiculously quick to forgive Kuvira。 Come on guys, she literally blew up most of the city, tried to kill her fiancé, and murdered Asami's dad。 Zuko did not have a three-season redemption arc for this nonsense。- The colours in this were BEAUTIFUL。 I'm a sucker for good lighting and hoo boy this was NOICE。- Korra and Asami were very cute。 I'm glad to see the writers didn't use Asami getting brainwashed as an excuse to bring drama into their relationship。 - I think it's incredibly sweet that we can see Korra help Toph find the right place to sign without even being asked。- Also very cute that we see Opal napping in the background with her head in Toph's lap。 10/10 granddaughter-grandma interaction。 。。。more

I'm in love with a fascist dictator >:(I own both trilogies of The legend of korra and even though I enjoyed both (I'm kinda biased) I would choose this one as my favourite。 Ruins of empire follows the story of the Book 4 with:- Asami and Korra being the queer icons we deserve- the Beifong family serving great looks and fight scenes- an interesting plot very realistic because of how Book 4 ended - Kuvira。 The character of Kuvira was a great choice for this trilogy, she just owns this book。 I'm in love with a fascist dictator >:(I own both trilogies of The legend of korra and even though I enjoyed both (I'm kinda biased) I would choose this one as my favourite。 Ruins of empire follows the story of the Book 4 with:- Asami and Korra being the queer icons we deserve- the Beifong family serving great looks and fight scenes- an interesting plot very realistic because of how Book 4 ended - Kuvira。 The character of Kuvira was a great choice for this trilogy, she just owns this book。 。。。more

Lacks the emotional depth of the storytelling in the show, but still fun to explore adventures with the same characters。

Hmm。。。 this is the first of the Avatar-verse continuation comic series that didn't quite click with me。 I didn't hate it or anything, but I also wasn't gripped, and it took me longer to get through simply because I wasn't all that excited to pick it up and keep reading。And the main reason for that is。。。 Kuvira didn't really work for me here。 I liked her in Book 4 of the show, as a foil to Korra, but now we're seeing the aftermath of her surrender, and her remorse, and it's like。。。 on the one han Hmm。。。 this is the first of the Avatar-verse continuation comic series that didn't quite click with me。 I didn't hate it or anything, but I also wasn't gripped, and it took me longer to get through simply because I wasn't all that excited to pick it up and keep reading。And the main reason for that is。。。 Kuvira didn't really work for me here。 I liked her in Book 4 of the show, as a foil to Korra, but now we're seeing the aftermath of her surrender, and her remorse, and it's like。。。 on the one hand, I think it's cool and complicated to explore what happens after the bad guy gets sent off to jail and the good guys win the day。 But on the other hand, this story seemed to wrap things up with too nice of a bow for my tastes。 We see these flashes of Kuvira's backstory, but they're not all that illuminating。 It's basically just "Kuvira was a troubled kid who grew into a troubled adult but she's sorry now。"The fact that Opal was all smiles at the end, and that even Asami was like。。。 "thanks for being on our side this time" really didn't work for me。 Her crimes were atrocious。 She was a war criminal, y'all。 This isn't like forgiving Zuko or something。 It felt really unbalanced with reality。On the more positive side of things, I loved seeing Toph, King Wu was hilarious and I was so proud of him for making hard choices and trying to do right by the people of the Earth Kingdom。 I also think Asami is the most beautiful cartoon girl in the world, and the art style in this series was especially stunning。 The brainwashing angst was the kind of stuff I love to see, complete with the tender reconciliation。 Lots of fun Korrasami background moments throughout。So that's that。 Not as gripped as I wanted to be, but I didn't hate it by any means! 。。。more

Kuvira has to be one of the most unsatisfying characters ever。 She’s a fascist dictator who didn’t know there was brainwashing going on in her own “re-education camps?” She commits ethnic cleansing and attempts to destroy a city of millions of innocent people and we’re supposed to believe that’s she’s had a sudden change of heart? Don’t get me wrong, I love a good redemption arc (just look at Zuko) but this one is lazy and unearned。It’s such a disappointment, too。 The ATLA sequel comics are real Kuvira has to be one of the most unsatisfying characters ever。 She’s a fascist dictator who didn’t know there was brainwashing going on in her own “re-education camps?” She commits ethnic cleansing and attempts to destroy a city of millions of innocent people and we’re supposed to believe that’s she’s had a sudden change of heart?
